As I set my sights on expanding and growing my skillset in the digital realm, I was given the opportunity to look into establishing a design language and framework for BlueCross’ email communications. I began by making observations in a general audit of all the communications that had been sent in the previous year. This allowed the team to organize a common language that could be used to create a more seamless transition between hand offs.

Breaking down the UI patterns revealed a common theme. There was no universal representation of many commonly used elements such as buttons and links. With this in mind we set out to establish a foundational design system, working with our Email developer to determine the best method to componentize and manage his code base, creating consistency and efficiency with less margin of error.
